BLOOMINGTON, MN, January 10, 2014 – The Minnesota Multi Housing Association (MHA) raised $16,632.43 – along with additional donations of children’s books, toys and blankets – for Minneapolis homeless shelter People Serving People.

MHA members celebrated their charitable partnership with a silent auction and raffle to benefit the organization on Friday, November 22nd at ElseWarehouse Apartments in the Minneapolis North Loop.

People Serving People CEO Daniel Gumnit attended the fundraiser to express his gratitude and to convey the importance of MHA’s contributions.

“Last year, more than 2,000 homeless children stayed at People Serving People. The new face of homelessness is that of a six-year-old child. If we are going to end the cycle, we have to focus on the kids. Partnerships like this one are instrumental in helping us accomplish our goals,” Gumnit said.

Just after Charitable Outreach Chair Colleen Wilson and MHA staff member Tina Gassman presented a $14,985 donation to Gumnit, MHA vendors in attendance added to the sum.

“The work Daniel and his team do at People Serving People is so very important,” Wilson said, “Every one of our members who has toured the shelter has been moved to help them succeed.”
