Rental Research Services is the nation's first resident screening agency.  In 1969, Paul and LaRue Mikkelson, founders of Rental Research, invented a system to assist property owners and managers in protecting themselves, their rental property and most importantly their residents. This process included not only reviewing the applicant's credit history, but also verifying every piece of data on the application. Paul and LaRue also began serving as the credit reporting agency to the multi-housing industry. They began to gather, store and disseminate information that was vital to the rental decision process. This database has now grown into one of the most sophisticated and comprehensive databases in the nation.
   
Originally incorporated as Rent Control, Rental Research was invented to bridge the gap between traditional credit reporting systems and the needs of the multi-housing industry.  Typically, credit bureau reports and statistical scoring models were designed to assist in banking and credit card lending, but they didn't address housing histories, evictions, income, criminal activity or basic behavioral issues. These issues are mission-critical to maintaining a profitable and manageable rental housing market.

  Since day one, Rental Research has been the leader in resident screening innovation. We stay innovative by constantly pushing the limits of technology while expanding our coverage and data depth. Rental Research has built a multilevel, multijurisdictional criminal record search consisting of instantaneous access to statewide criminal records, violent sex offenders and supplemental county criminal records. This combination of sources creates redundancy, which is the key to increasing the accuracy and reliability of your resident screening reports.
 
Rental Research approaches housing histories with the same degree of innovation. With the ever-increasing cost of filing evictions, not all property managers/owners choose to file. If they choose not to file an eviction, you may not learn of problem renter histories, so we provide additional options. They may choose to enter resident information into our ROPR database or place them with Interstate Credit Control, our affiliate collection agency. They also have the option to do both.  In either case, you will see the information in your report.

We are a charter member of the National Association of Screening Agencies and members of the National Apartment Association (NAA) and the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).
